The Benefits of Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation can enhance the volume of your breasts and help you achieve a natural-looking result. The benefits of breast augmentation include:

Is Breast Augmentation Right for Me?

The first step in the breast augmentation process is having a private consultation with one of our surgeons. When you come to VPSI, you enter a judgment-free zone. Regardless of your body type or your aesthetic goals, we will discuss different breast implant sizing options and implant types with you.

A Breast Augmentation is a Great Choice if:

How Old Do I Have to Be to Get a Breast Augmentation?

Depending on the type of breast enhancement, you may be able to have the procedure done as early as age 18.

Breast Augmentation Implant Types: What Are My Options?

There are several decisions to make with regard to breast implants, including size, shape, and more. Our surgeons will guide you through the different options to help you achieve your aesthetic goals. One of the most fundamental choices is which type of implant to get. Those made of silicone gel tend to be more viscous than their saline equivalents, resulting in a more natural look and feel. In other words, many patients find that silicone breast implants are the ones that most closely resemble natural breast tissue.

Saline breast implants are inserted as empty shells, and once positioned, they are filled with a sterilized saline solution. While this can sometimes create an unnatural “rippling” appearance, saline implants have the advantage of being inserted while unfilled, which means that they can be placed with the most minimal incisions, helping to decrease long-term scarring.

An alternative to breast implants is a breast augmentation with fat transfer. This approach involves harvesting fat from one part of the body, often the abdomen or thigh, and using that tissue to enhance the breasts. This approach is recommended if there are concerns about mechanical or physiological issues related to silicone implants (breast implant illness or BIA-ALCL), and you have a desire to avoid having a foreign body inside.

Breast Augmentation Process Explained

The specifics of your surgery will vary depending on whether you are getting saline or silicone breast implants or breast augmentation via fat transfer. In either instance, anesthesia options will be discussed in advance, ensuring that you are completely comfortable and pain-free during the procedure. We will also discuss incision options in advance and offer some guidance on the kind of scarring you can expect. Our surgeons are committed to keeping scars as minimal as possible to create the most pleasing results.

How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost?

We understand that the cost of breast augmentation is a major deciding factor when choosing to undergo this procedure. However, this procedure is not a one-size-fits-all—nor should it be! Any reputable surgeon should tailor the procedure to meet your unique needs and aesthetic goals, which impacts the final cost. Furthermore, aside from customizing your treatment plan, several factors influence the price, from your choice of implants to fees associated with anesthesia. Understanding these considerations is crucial for making an informed decision and confidently moving forward with your breast augmentation. Breast Augmentation FAQs

Depending on your goals and expectations, your surgeon may recommend combining breast lift with augmentation for more beautiful results. Breast augmentation can also be combined with body contouring procedures, such as a tummy tuck or liposuction, as part of a total body or mommy makeover.

While surgery always involves some level of risk, the risks associated with breast augmentation are minimized when you select a skilled surgeon and make a fully informed decision about implant type.

We understand that some patients are worried about breast implant disease. We are always happy to discuss the specific risk level associated with this condition.

Breast augmentation results are typically long-lasting, especially if you follow the aftercare instructions carefully and maintain a healthy lifestyle overall.

During your consultation, one of our board-certified surgeons will carefully examine your breasts to see if a breast lift is needed in addition to implants.  They’ll be looking for signs of sagging skin, often accompanied by a loss of volume in the upper part of the breast. If you have both of these concerns, then combining a breast lift with implants might be the best option to achieve your desired outcome.

Most surgeons recommend waiting at least 3-6 months after delivery. Here’s why: your body goes through a lot during pregnancy, and your breasts are no exception. They change size and shape, and this can continue for a while after you give birth, especially if you breastfeed. Waiting allows your hormones, weight, and breast tissue to return to their new normal. This way, you’ll get the best results from your breast augmentation and avoid any complications from your body still being in flux.

While there’s a chance sensation might be reduced for a while, most people get it back entirely after healing. Think of it like when your foot falls asleep – it might feel tingly or numb at first, but it usually goes back to normal eventually.

There are a couple of reasons why your breasts might feel tight after surgery:

  • Healing and Swelling: Following breast augmentation (or any surgery involving the chest area), your body goes into overdrive to heal the tissues. This healing process involves inflammation and swelling, which can cause tightness in the breasts and surrounding muscles. This tightness is usually most noticeable in the first few weeks after surgery and gradually subsides as the swelling goes down.
  • Muscle Tension:  Depending on the implant placement technique used during surgery, some tightness might be caused by the muscles around the implants tensing up as they adjust to the new presence. This is especially true if the implant is placed beneath the muscle.

These feelings of tightness are generally considered normal side effects of healing. Learn more about relaxing your chest muscles after breast augmentation for a smooth and comfortable recovery process.
