  • Worry over breast implant illness
  • Changing aesthetic ideals

The Breast Implant Removal Process Explained

Once you arrive at the surgery center, you will be placed under full anesthesia to ensure your comfort and safety. The doctor will make an incision under the lower fold of the breast.

Through these incisions, the doctor will remove the implants and the capsule that has formed around them. For many patients, the procedure will also include a mastopexy, or breast lift, performed along with a fat graft, ensuring that the result is aesthetically pleasing and looks as natural as possible.

In most cases, it is necessary to remove the entire breast capsule via a total capsulectomy, though the doctor may not remove it in one piece. The doctor will choose the most effective approach after a detailed evaluation.

An en bloc capsulectomy procedure involves the removal of the breast capsule, with the implant still inside of it, in one piece. This type of capsulectomy can be a more complicated operation but may be the best option in some instances.

Breast implant removal and breast lift combination can reposition sagging breasts or address weakened breast tissue and skin. After removing the implants and the breast capsule, the doctor will perform the breast lift or mastopexy with fat grafting.

Recovery and Aftercare

Following breast implant removal, you will need to allow your body to heal for a few days. Most patients will need to take it easy for a week and abstain from strenuous exercise for several weeks. There may be some swelling and discomfort following the procedure, but we will provide you with pain management tools as needed. You will be given a complete set of aftercare instructions before discharge.

Breast Implant Removal Frequently Asked Questions

One of the most common reasons for breast implant removal concerns breast implant illness. Though the term may encompass any number of symptoms related to breast implants, it is most commonly used to describe autoimmune/inflammatory syndrome induced by adjuvants (ASIA). Several potential symptoms are associated with this condition, ranging from physical pain to chronic fatigue.

While any surgery comes with potential risks, the risks associated with breast implant removal are minimal, especially when you choose a skilled and experienced plastic surgeon to perform the procedure.
