Your eyes are one of your primary facial features, serving as the first area you notice when looking in the mirror and the primary feature people see when looking at your face. When age, injury, or genetics cause the skin around your eyelid to droop or sag, you may feel less confident in your appearance. At VPSI, our board-certified Las Vegas doctors perform blepharoplasty to restore this lost confidence and help you achieve your best self.

The Benefits of Getting Blepharoplasty

As the skin around your eyes begins to sag, it can make you feel older. Additionally, drooping eyelid skin can disrupt your field of vision, limiting your ability to see peripherally.

Blepharoplasty surgery targets these concerns, restoring your vision and your appearance. Some of the benefits include:

  • Younger appearance around the eyes
  • Restored symmetry in the eyes
  • Appearing more alert and rested
  • Improved field of vision
  • Natural definition around the eyes
  • Dramatic improvement with limited recovery time

Eyelid surgery to lift and tighten the skin around the eyes can boost your confidence by giving you a more alert, friendly, and engaging appearance.

Am I a Good Candidate?

If you are a healthy adult without vision issues, you are a good candidate for blepharoplasty. It is an ideal procedure if you are looking to restore youthfulness around the eyes.

When the skin of your eyelids droops, it can affect both the appearance and function of the eyes. Blepharoplasty can address:

The Procedure Process Explained

Blepharoplasty is an outpatient procedure, so you can return home once you awaken from anesthesia.

When you arrive for your blepharoplasty, you will receive the anesthesia method you and your doctor discussed during your consultation.

During the procedure, your surgeon will make an incision along the natural folds of the eyelid. The strategic location of your incision minimizes the appearance of scars as you recover.

Inside the incision, your surgeon will remove excess skin, fat, and muscle to strengthen and tighten the remaining muscle and skin. After removing the appropriate skin and tissue, your surgeon will close your incision, and you can begin recovery.

Recovery and Aftercare

When you awake from anesthesia, you can return home to recover. However, a friend or loved one will need to drive you home. We provide our patients with clear post-surgery instructions to foster healthy healing.

Immediately after your blepharoplasty, your vision will be blurry. However, any vision symptoms you experience as part of your recovery will resolve within a few days.

A week after your procedure, you will return to our offices to evaluate your recovery and remove your stitches.

You can likely resume your everyday activities about two weeks after surgery, and if you wear contact lenses, you can continue their use at this time.

Other Considerations

Frequently, patients choose to add procedures to their blepharoplasty for more dramatic results. For example, we can add dermal fillers, a forehead or brow lift, a facelift, facial fat grafting, or a neck lift to your eyelid surgery.

Additionally, if you want more dramatic results and to consolidate downtime, you can have breast augmentation or liposuction during your blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty results vary slightly in longevity, but most patients who undergo upper eyelid surgery will see their effects last for five to seven years, while lower eyelid surgery results can last decades.

The skin of the upper eyelids will naturally begin to sag again over time, especially if you experience sagging in your forehead or browline.
