Taking the First Steps

The first step in the tummy tuck process is scheduling a consultation with one of our doctors. You can expect friendly, knowledgeable care from the first phone call through the initial visit, as our experienced team does everything to help you feel welcome and at ease.

The initial consultation takes place in our Las Vegas practice. Our office is a judgment-free zone where you can feel comfortable talking about your aesthetic goals and expectations.

Meet Our Board-Certified Plastic Surgeons

At VPSI, our surgeons distinguish themselves by their excellent technical skills and artistic eye. Both Dr. Brosious and Dr. Goldman have the versatile experience that allows them to say “yes” to nearly every patient who walks through the door.

Dr. Brosious performs over 200 chest surgeries a year for both transfeminine and transmasculine patients, and he is also the only surgeon in Nevada performing male to female genital gender affirmation surgery.

Likewise, Dr. Joshua Goldman is a comprehensive plastic and reconstructive surgeon, well-known in the breast cancer community for his specialization in breast microsurgery. The Procedure Process Explained

At VPSI, comfort and safety are our top priorities. From beginning to end, our team will guide you through the entire process. Once we create your custom treatment plan and prep you for surgery, your doctor will use his artistic skill and technical knowledge to reshape and slim down your abdominal area, thighs, and flanks.

While there are several different types of abdominoplasty, the procedure generally involves two major components.

The first is removing the extra skin that has been stretched out due to pregnancy or weight gain and eliminating excess fat from weight gain.

The second is tightening up the abdominal wall muscles to remove the bulge that results from a growing uterus or weight gain. The six-pack muscles, or rectus abdominis, spread out and typically do not snap back into place. This stomach muscle bulge is known as diastasis recti, and diet and exercise alone cannot correct it.

While tummy tuck surgery does require incisions, these will be carefully placed, typically below the underwear line, to minimize any visible scarring. Your doctor may recommend combining your tummy tuck with liposuction, which helps eliminate excess skin for a narrow waist and a toned abdomen.

Recovery and Aftercare

Following surgery, your body will require some time to rest and heal. Depending on the physical intensity of your job, you will be able to return to work within two to six weeks, and it will likely be a month or more before you can resume strenuous workouts.

You can anticipate some pain, swelling, and bruising during the recovery. These symptoms are normal, and you can manage them with pain medications. The effects usually clear up on their own within a few days.

Other Things to Consider Before Getting a Tummy Tuck

Depending on the nature of your work, you may need to request anywhere from two to six weeks off. It is essential to take special care to avoid reopening the wound.

While it is safe to get a tummy tuck following a C-section, the size of your uterus is still fluctuating in the weeks following childbirth. For this reason, we advise you to wait six to 12 months after your C-section before you can have the tummy tuck procedure. We usually will remove the C-section scar during the tummy tuck.

While there are no safety risks associated with getting pregnant after a tummy tuck, you may find that pregnancy and childbirth change some of the aesthetic results of your procedure. We recommend waiting to get a tummy tuck until you are reasonably confident you will no longer have children.

Tummy tucks are often combined with liposuction to remove excess skin and adiposity for body contouring purposes, breast surgery, or other aesthetic procedures.

While all surgeries come with risks, most of them are uncommon. Our Las Vegas doctors are highly skilled board-certified plastic and reconstructive surgeons, and they strive to offer safe and comfortable solutions whenever possible.

Tummy tuck results can be long-lasting if you maintain an overall healthy lifestyle following your procedure. If you gain weight or become pregnant, another abdominoplasty or body contouring procedure may be required to restore your results.
